    Armchair theatre

    If you’ve always wondered what exactly goes into creating a quality piece of upholstery, head to the Heal’s flagship store on London’s Tottenham Court Road, between 11am and 4pm on 6 April.

    Craftsmen from SCP‘s Norfolk-based factory, Coakley & Cox Ltd, will be taking over the store’s window with a live display, that will see them construct and upholster two armchairs by designer Matthew Hilton.

    The event is part of the Heal’s Masterpieces programme, and includes a short film that shows the entire process.

Whether walking around her Islington-based shop, Folklore, or browsing the products online evokes the same sense of pleasure and serenity.

    Furniture, accessories, kitchenware, lighting and artworks are all handmade, antique or recycled by designers and makers working alongside Danielle and her discerning eye.

    Great finds at the V&A

    The H&G decorating team took a trip to London’s inspirational V&A Shop to see new ceramics from fifth generation family business, 1882.  Featuring new works and work in progress by designers Max Lamb, Mr Brainwash, Alan Hughes, Nicholas Hughes, and Fort Standard.

    While we were there we couldn’t resist a trip round the rest of the shop and came across these beautiful Wooden Print Blocks, £8 each and found a fun collection of stationery too.

    The wonder of wool…

    The Wool House – the inspiring celebration of all things woolly at London’s Somerset House – closes on Sunday.Four leading designers; Mary Fox Linton, Ashley Hicks, Kit Kemp and Josephine Ryan have demonstrated the almost infinite possibilities of this truly versatile, sustainable, beautiful and tactile material. Admission is free. It is the inspired idea of the people at The Campaign For Wool . Clearly no woolly thinking there…

    Chocs away

    With Easter on the horizon, it’s the perfect excuse to scoop up some treats at the London Chocolate Festival, which started today and runs all weekend until Sunday 24 March.

    Located just outside the Royal Festival Hall at London’s Southbank, we nipped along at lunchtime to enjoy treats from Rococo, Hotel Chocolat, L’Artisan du Chocolat and Damian Allsop.

    And just look at the amazing offerings by Italian chocolate company, Choco Passion. Moulded from everyday objects including cameras, work tools, dinky toys, we couldn’t resist buying a few.

    Whether they make it to Easter… well that’s another matter.
