Now that we have started to spill back out into our gardens for the summer, it’s time to make sure we’ve made the best of our exterior lighting… Davide Groppi¬†turns illumination (for interior and exterior) into an art form. Designed by himself or in collaboration with others, the pieces are the essence of simplicity. The Grillo, designed by Daniele Sprega, is an LED light that can be used to illuminate a flower, plant or pathway.

It is 60cm high, with a 20cm spike, and retails at ¬£25o from TwentyTwentyOne. Oh, and if you thought this was good, take a look at the Cicala. Designed to complement the Grillo, it is in fact a speaker for music and can connect to any device via bluetooth. So that’s the lighting and music for summer get-togethers taken care of. Now for the food…

That looks amazing, and I love the idea of a Bluetooth speaker, especially if it blends into the garden. The problem I have with landscape lighting is getting lights that are the right amount of brightness. I have tried to mimic some of the lighting effects I see on bigger homes with more extravagant budgets, and I just can’t quite get it right.

It ends up looking like I am having a shadow puppet show or it is just off balance. Do you have any hints for someone like me?
